Professional Experience: Mr. Babcock associated with the firm in 2010 and manages the
Portland office. He has represented West Coast stevedores, shipyards, marine contractors, and
insurers at all levels of the administrative and judicial processes, including the United
States Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. In
matters related to the LHWCA and its extensions, Mr. Babcock has participated in hundreds of
trials, presented dozens of cases to the Benefits Review Board and the Court of Appeals for the
Ninth Circuit, and briefed and argued two cases before the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Babcock frequently serves as agreed mediator in LHWCA cases from Seattle to San Diego
and has been invited to appear as a featured speaker at more than 50 regional and national
conferences. Mr. Babcock was a member of the first Board of Directors and served as the
second president of the Longshore Claims Association; he remains active in that organization's
education programs.
Outside the maritime arena, Mr. Babcock serves as a mediator for Oregon Supreme Court/Court of Appeals
Settlement Conference Program. For his public service activities, Mr. Babcock received the 2010 Oregon
State Bar pro bono service (small firm) award.
