Professional
Experience: Prior to joining the firm
in 1993, Mr. Whitehead practiced for 17 years
with the Seattle law firm of Le Gros, Buchanan,
Paul & Whitehead, where he was a principal
and senior litigator. He has represented numerous
underwriters, including most of the world’s
P&I Clubs and major domestic insurers, in
a variety of maritime, motor carrier, and construction
cases. He has extensive motion and trial experience
in the state and federal courts of Washington
and Alaska. He has also appeared before the
Washington Court of Appeals, Washington Supreme
Court, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
He is often asked by other attorneys to mediate
substantial cases in litigation.
Mr.
Whitehead lectures and writes frequently on
maritime legal issues. He was for many years
a member of the faculty of the Port of Seattle’s
annual international trade seminar, and he is
a member of the organizing committee of the
Pacific Northwest Admiralty Law Institute, which
sponsors seminars on issues of interest to the
maritime industry. He has spoken at seminars
sponsored by that Institute, the University
of Washington School of Law, The Continuing
Legal Education Society of British Columbia,
and various insurance industry groups. He chaired
the International Maritime Law Conference held
in Seattle in June 1996. Mr. Whitehead is also
the Associate Editor for Seattle of American
Maritime Cases. He has received Martindale-Hubbell’s
highest rating (AV) for many years, and he is
listed in Who’s Who in American Law.
Professional
Associations: Mr. Whitehead is a member
of the Washington State Bar Association, the
Alaska Bar Association, the Maritime Law Association
of the United States, the Association for Transportation
Law, Logistics and Policy, and The Transportation
Club of Seattle. He was elected in May 2000
to a three-year term on the Board of Directors
of the Maritime Law Association of the United
States.
